Suspended WVU employee facing charge after internet contact with underage girl

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A Morgantown man is facing a charge after allegations that he attempted to seduce an underage girl.

Chadwick Alt, 35, is facing one count of use of obscene matter with intent to seduce a minor.

Alt was charged following an investigation beginning in February. An undercover investigator from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force was contacted by Alt, believing the investigator to be a 12-year-old girl.

He is a business analyst with West Virginia University’s Information Technology Services department, Monongalia County Chief Deputy Al Kisner confirmed Wednesday.

A representative from WVU confirmed Mr. Alt has been suspended without pay pending the resolution of the case.

Contact was made on the popular Kik messaging app, investigators said.

According to police, Alt talked about sex, discussed going to Ohio to meet the girl, and sent obscene photographs.

The case has been forwarded to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division, which is an ICAC affiliate. Detectives from their department and officers from the West Virginia University Police Department executed search warrants at Alt’s residence and office and seized electronic items from both, the Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

Alt is in North Central Regional Jail. Bond is set at $25,000 cash or surety.
