Will Grier and West Virginia won’t play a spring game after all, with freezing temps and snow forecast for Saturday.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A spring game played in the snow doesn’t seem very spring-like, so West Virginia has ditched Saturday afternoon’s Gold-Blue game.

With freezing temperatures and a 70-percent chance of snow in the weekend forecast, athletics director Shane Lyons made the cancellation Thursday.

“When you have snow predicted for much of the state on Saturday, we need to take the utmost caution to assure the safety of our student-athletes, while also avoiding elements that are problematic for our fans,” Lyons said.

The school’s ticket office guaranteed refunds to fans who purchased tickets in advance.

With no scrimmage scheduled, players will join Coach Dana Holgorsen for his “Walk the Talk” fundraiser Saturday at 9 a.m. with  the Li’l Mountaineer Kids Dash still slated for 10 a.m.
