The Health Care Crimes Task Force, according to Powell, will cooperate with federal, state and local law agencies to investigate those accused of fraud, improper opioid distribution and other illegal acts.

“The professional status of these individuals will not protect them from prosecution,” Powell said in a press release.

Participating organizations with the task force are the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of West Virginia, the federal Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the FBI, the Defense Criminal Investigative Service, the state Insurance Commission Fraud Unit and the state Medicaid Fraud Unit.
