KINGWOOD, W.Va. — Buckhannon-Upshur kept its early season momentum going on Friday night with a 12-6 road win over Preston.

It was the first in-state game the Buccaneers (5-0) have played this season, but continued the season opening stretch Buckhannon began in Myrtle Beach last week, winning its division in the Mingo Bay Classic.

Left fielder James Bailey led Buckhannon on Friday, going 3 for 5 on the day with three RBIs and a run scored in the win.

Catcher Casey Hamner went 2 for 4 with four RBIs for the Bucs, while Nick Calef-Boring and Logan Whitehair both had two hits apiece in the win as well.

Tim Phillips picked up the win on the mound, giving up two runs (zero earned) on five hits and striking out nine.

Jacob Brady, Ethan Braham, Byron Brandt, Peyton Fazenbaker and Jacob Fields all collected two hits apiece for Preston (1-4) in the loss.

The two teams combined for 28 hits and 10 errors in the contest.

Buckhannon led 5-2 after five innings and 12-3 going into the bottom of the seventh.
