Police: Martinsburg fatal appears drug related

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Investigators believe drugs and alcohol were involved in a fatal crash in Martinsburg.

A Virginia man is dead after the vehicle he was riding tore in half after striking a tree.

Martinsburg Police said in a news release the accident occurred on Baltimore Street around 3:00 Sunday morning.

The driver, Ladell Webb of Martinsburg, and his passenger, Antwuan Barnes of Arlington, Virginia, had reportedly left an area club prior to the crash.

Police say the vehicle was moving at a high rate of speed when Webb failed to negotiate a curve in the road just past the former Royce Hosiery factory.

The vehicle struck a tree on the passenger side and was sheered in two.

Both were taken to Berkeley Medical Center where Barnes was pronounced dead.
