PRINCETON, W.Va. — Sentencing is scheduled for early June for a Mercer County woman who pleaded guilty this week to shooting and killing her mother last year.
Amanda Kay Proffitt, 33, of Brushfork, entered a plea deal with prosecutor’s Thursday and admitted to the charge of second-degree murder.
According to prosecutors, on April 22, 2017, Proffitt had been arguing with her mother, Connie Proffitt, about plans to have Amanda’s boyfriend move in with them. Later that day, while her mother was sleeping, Amanda Proffitt saw a gun, grabbed it, and shot her mother in the head.
Proffitt faces up to 40 years in prison. She’s never been in trouble before, prosecutors said.
An assistant prosecutor told the judge the relationship between the two women was abusive and controlling.
