Perfect week propels Fairmont Senior to No. 4 in Class AA

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — A 5-0 week which included a perfect game, a combined no-hitter and win over a ranked Class AAA opponent jumped Fairmont Senior from No. 10 to No. 4 in this week’s MetroNews baseball poll.

The Polar Bears (7-1) on Tuesday defeated Lincoln 5-0 as Connor Neal threw a perfect game.

A 12-2 Wednesday win over Preston was followed by a 7-3 victory over then-Class AAA No. 7 Morgantown and wins on Saturday over Ritchie County 10-3 and Philip Barbour 6-4.

In the win over Ritchie County (gallery posted above), Exavier Posey and Trey Washeitz combined to throw a no-hitter. Posey, who walked five and struck out five, gave up all three runs in one and one-third innings. Washeitz finished with seven strikeouts in relief the rest of the way.

Connor Saunders, who doubled in the win, finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run scored.

The Polar Bears have a scheduled rematch with Morgantown on Monday, while a Saturday road contest against No. 7 Frankfort looms as well.
