Trump orders federal assistance to assist state and local flood recovery efforts

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump ordered federal assistance on Tuesday to financially supplement state and local recovery efforts in parts of West Virginia affected by flooding and storms in February.

Twenty-one counties were affected by the storms and related flooding, landslides and mudslides. State, eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations can request federal funding.

West Virginia’s congressional delegation sent a letter to Trump in March encouraging him to order a major disaster declaration.
