Charleston police say 19-year-old woman killed in crash

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A 19-year-old South Charleston High School student was killed in a automobile crash that remains under investigation in Charleston.

Police released the name of Samara D’Arco Friday morning. She was alone in a vehicle that collided with another vehicle t-bone collision Thursday afternoon on 7th Avenue in North Charleston.

Two other teenagers, both 16, in the second vehicle were injured and remain hospitalized. There names will not be released, police said.

Their conditions were unknown Friday morning.

Accident reconstructionists are investigating, according to Charleston Police Department Lt. Autumn Davis.

“We don’t know exactly what happened. The Crash Investigation Unit is conducting the investigation and those details will be available in the days ahead,” Davis said.

In the hours after the accident police have learned D’Arco had a newborn child, Davis said.

“That just contributes to this tragedy,” Davis said.

D’Arco was a student at South Charleston and took classes at Ben Franklin Technical Education Center. She was scheduled to graduate in May.
