Class AAA No. 1 Hurricane beats Parkersburg for 18th win

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — Class AAA No. 1 Hurricane built an 8-0 lead and went on for an 8-4 win on the road at Parkersburg on Saturday afternoon.

The Redskins (18-2) were patient at the plate early on and took 11 walks, manufacturing their first six runs with just one hit on the scoreboard.

“Now we’re getting enough at-bats where you start expecting to see the ball well – hopefully that will carry through,” said Hurricane coach Brian Sutphin. “Guys have 50, 60, 70 at-bats and should at least be in better position to make themselves successful.

Jonathan Blackwell finished with 11 strikeouts in Hurricane’s 8-4 win over Parkersburg.

“It was a good week for us,” he continued. “We didn’t have a lot of good at-bats together back-to-back today, but overall I thought we did some good things and we’re ready to move on and play the next one.”

Jonathan Blackwell was strong on the mound through six and two-thirds before giving up four runs (two earned) with those two outs in the seventh.

He finished the game with 11 strikeouts on the mound.

“He’s tough,” Sutphin said. “I thought he was sharp. He was really efficient early and threw only six pitches in the first. I was pleased with him – he’s been good for us all year.”

Jake Allen and Tyler Cox both doubled in the win for the Redskins.
