Ohio County mother receives up to 27-year sentence after witnessing abuse

WHEELING, W.Va. — An Ohio County judge sentenced a mother on Thursday to up to 27 years in prison after admitting to watching her boyfriend abuse her child.

Sabrina Hall said she knew about the abuse but was scared to intervene in the acts by Apollo Rice. He was found guilty of covering a 2-year-old boy’s mouth with duct tape then putting his head under water. He also threw the boy over a gate onto a hardwood floor, and used hot sauce in his acts.

Rice is serving a prison sentence between 12 and 60 years in prison.

Hall’s sentence is between seven and 27 years.
