UPDATE: 4 year-old killed in Raleigh County turnpike crash

Update 4.26.18:

GHENT, W.Va. — West Virginia State Police have confirmed that a 4 year-old boy from Kentucky was killed in Tuesday’s accident on the turnpike near Ghent.

The child’s 24 year-old mother was driving the vehicle. She was treated for minor injuries and released.

The crash remains under investigation.

GHENT, W.Va. — Authorities are still investigating a deadly turnpike accident that occurred Tuesday evening in Raleigh County.

West Virginia State Police said one vehicle crashed near mile marker 26 northbound. The location was roughly two miles south of the Ghent/Flat Top exit.

One northbound lane and one southbound lane were closed for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene. State Police, Ghent Volunteer Fire and EMS and Jan Care Ambulance responded.

The identity of the person killed has yet to be released pending family notification. It is still unclear what caused the crash.
