Full list of the year’s WV Sports Writers Association honorees

WHEELING, W.Va. — The West Virginia Sports Writers Association Victory Awards dinner is set for Sunday, May 6 in Charleston.

The dinner serves as a showcase for the state’s top sports achievers and to induct members into the West Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.

The newest inductees will be two of the state’s most successful, retired college and high school coaches–W. Va. State baseball coach Cal Bailey and Marion County football and wrestling mentor Roy Michael. The Hall, started in 1950, now includes 184 honorees.

Furfari Award (College Coach of Year) — Dan D’Antoni, Marshall

Van Meter Award (High School Coach of Year) — Brad Napier, Chapmanville

Evans Award (Boys Basketball Player of Year) — Taevon Horton, Fairmont Senior

Ostrowski Award (Girls Basketball Player of Year) — Gabby Lupardus, Wyoming East, and Hanna McClung, Buckhannon-Upshur

Dutton Award (Wrestler of Year) — Josh Humphreys, Parkersburg South

Lowery Award (Baseball Player of Year) — Garrett Gress, Hurricane

Rachel Taylor Memorial Award (Softball Player of Year) — Katie Adams, Hurricane

McCoy Awards (Male & Female Trackpersons of Year) — Freddy Canary, South Harrison, and McKenna Smith, Bridgeport

Morehouse Award — Dave Morrison, Beckley

Doug Huff Award — Riley Bennington, Wheeling Central

Boys Soccer Player of Year — Seth Jordan, Nitro

Girls Soccer Player of Year — Emilie Charles, Cabell Midland

Volleyball Player of Year — Tessa Wyner, George Washington

Kennedy Foundation Scholarships — Tyson Bagent, Martinsburg, and Jadon Hayes, Huntington
