HURRICANE, W.Va. — Class AAA No. 3 Cabell Midland rallied with three runs in the sixth and five runs in the seventh to beat No. 1 Hurricane 13-10 for the MSAC baseball championship on Tuesday night.
With postseason play set to begin next week, neither of the two sectional rivals threw their No. 1 starters, combining to use 10 pitchers on the night (seven for Cabell Midland, three for Hurricane).
Easton Petit led Cabell Midland (17-5) at the plate, going 3 for 5 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Griffin Adkins, Brennan Holmes, Madison Jeffrey and Peyton Weekly all had two RBIs apiece in the win as well.
Back-to-back doubles from Adkins and then Petit in the seventh gave the Knights the lead, 11-10, completing a comeback that saw Cabell Midland trail 10-5 heading into the sixth.
The five runs in the seventh inning all came with two outs.
Tyler Cox was 4 for 5 with four RBIs and two runs scored in the loss for Hurricane (22-3).
Cabell Midland has now won nine straight games and 15 of its last 16 outings.
The loss snapped a 10-game winning streak for Hurricane and was the first defeat to an in-state team for the Redskins.
Overall, the two teams split a pair of regular season games with the Redskins winning back on April 18, 15-4.
