Woman killed in Fayette County ATV crash

WINONA, W.Va. — A Fayette County woman died Tuesday afternoon in an ATV accident.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department said the woman was riding the vehicle with a male driver along Flanagan School Road in the Winona area when it overturned.

Both riders were injured, but the driver was able to walk to find help. When he returned, he found the woman deceased.

Fayette County Sheriff Mike Fridley has identified the woman as Rose Chittum, 63 of Winona. Fridley also released a statement in regard to the accident.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and friends. Now that spring is here and more people are out on the trails, we encourage everyone to ride safe.”

The Nuttall and Ansted Fire Departments responded along with an EMS crew. Attempts by first responders to revive the victim were unsuccessful.

The crash remains under investigation.
