MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Class A No. 9 Notre Dame defeated Clay-Battelle 26-0 on Friday night in a rain-shortened game from Monongalia County Ballpark in the Mon County Baseball Classic, presented by MVB Bank.
Down to just eight players after an injury and with rain continuing to come down, Clay-Battelle ultimately forfeited the contest following two innings of play.
The Irish (14-12) were led by Todd Griffith at the plate who went 2 for 2 with five RBIs and three runs scored. Brent Robinson and Jeremiah Ritter both added four RBIs apiece as well.
Notre Dame is the two-seed in Class A Region 2, Section 1, while Clay-Battelle (1-10) is the seven-seed.
The two teams are scheduled to open up sectional play against one another on Monday night.
HIGHLIGHTS:
