Police investigate break-in at Wheeling clinic

WHEELING, W.Va. — A day which celebrates the work of the Health Right Clinic in Wheeling was marred Friday by a break-in.

The biggest annual fundraiser for the free healthcare facility in Ohio County was held last night, but as staff prepared for the event they were greeted Friday when they walked in the door by destruction. Police say somebody broke into the clinic on Wheeling’s 29th Street around 4 a.m. Friday and ransacked the place.

Staff spent much of the day cleaning up the destruction. The robber apparently stole a flat screen TV, but also left a string of broken glass and items inside the facility.  Officials assume the thief was on the hung of narcotics, but there were none to be found.  HealthRight officials say they do not store drugs on the premises just because of a fear of break-ins and theft.

An investigation continues.
