Troopers investigate Sutton woman’s death

SUTTON, W.Va. — State police troopers are investigating the death of a Braxton County woman.

Ruth Westfall, 53, of Sutton, died Sunday after her severely beaten body was found Saturday in a room at Laurel Court Motel in Sutton, State Police spokesman Captain Reggie Patterson said.

“They were looking at if an aggravated battery occurred or some other kind of injuries that caused her death,” Patterson said.

Westfall’s body has been taken to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

“A thorough investigation will occur there and based on the results of that it will give us what direction the investigation will take,” Patterson said.

Troopers will try to retrace Westfall’s steps.

“Based on evidence that may have been gathered at the scene, witnesses and so forth, also the results of the autopsy. They will try to piece together the puzzle and try to figure what occurred in the hours proceeding (Westfall’s) death,” Patterson said.
