Putnam County woman sentenced for fatal heroin injection

WINFIELD, W.Va. — A Putnam County woman was sentenced Friday to 15 years in prison for injecting a man with heroin.

Joney Farley, 36, of Hurricane, admitted last year to injecting Jeffrey Burdette with the substance in March 2017, which resulted in his death. She originally faced a charge of first-degree murder.

Farley entered a guilty plea for drug delivery resulting in death, receiving the maximum sentence on Friday

Farley’s father is former Putnam County Sheriff Stan Farley, who served as sheriff between 1998 and 2004. He died in December 2011.
