ST. ALBANS, W.Va. — Class AAA defending state champion St. Albans overcame an early-week sectional setback to South Charleston, going on to win three-straight elimination games, earning a return berth into regional play.
The Red Dragons on Tuesday fell to South Charleston 1-0 and bounced back with a 6-5 walk-off win in nine innings over George Washington on Wednesday.
A 9-0 win over South Charleston on Thursday set-up Friday’s winner take all sectional championship game between the two teams on Friday.
The Red Dragons (25-10) again battled back, erasing a 4-0 deficit with five runs in the bottom of the third to go on for a 5-4 win over South Charleston. Connor Fizer and Nick Loftis both collected two hits apiece in the win.
St. Albans moves on to face Greenbrier East in regional play, which begins on Monday, May 21.
