GLENVILLE, W.Va. — Notre Dame built a 6-0 lead and went on for a Class A Region 2, Section 1 championship on Monday night, beating No. 5 Gilmer County 7-4.

The win was Notre Dame’s third in-a-row while facing elimination, going back to an earlier sectional loss to the Titans last week.

The Irish (18-13), who ended the regular season ranked No. 10 in Class A, forced Monday’s winner-take-all championship game with an 8-3 victory over Gilmer County back on Saturday.

Elias Gordon on Monday helped provide the momentum in the top of the fifth for Notre Dame, connecting on a two-RBI double to give the Irish a 3-0 lead. Notre Dame would score five runs in the inning overall.

Garrett Collins also went 1 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored in the win for the Irish.

Todd Griffith went four and one-third innings on the mound for Notre Dame, giving up two runs and striking out six. Jalen Miller threw two and two-third innings, giving up two runs on four hits.

Gilmer County (24-10) was led by Hunter Self on Monday who went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run scored. The Titans put together a 12-game winning streak early in the season, but ultimately lost four of five meetings overall to Notre Dame.

Notre Dame moves on to face No. 4 Moorefield in regional play, which is set to begin on Monday, May 21. With Moorefield being the higher regional seed, the Yellow Jackets will host game one and Notre Dame will serve as the home team in game two. If necessary, game three would be played at Moorefield.
