Woman’s body found in Dunbar; homicide investigation underway

DUNBAR, W.Va. — A murder investigation is underway in Dunbar after a woman was found dead Tuesday morning.

The victim was located near the townhouses at the bottom of the Roxalana Hills property after police were called to check out some suspicious items, Dunbar Police Captain Matt Arthur said.

“They found several items that appeared to belong to a female. The items had blood all over them. They found some bullet casings in the area. They began an area search to see what else may be there. It was at that time they found an African American female,” Arthur said.

She had apparently been shot.

“From what we’ve seen so far it’s pretty clear this was a homicide,” Arthur said.

There’s a busy road close to where the body was located and Arthur believes the murder probably happened sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Dunbar detectives and Kanawha County deputies are working jointly on the investigation, Arthur sad.

“They are conducting interviews. Looking for security camera footage if that’s available. They are processing the crime scene,” he said.

The woman’s identity hadn’t been determined by midday Tuesday.
