First phase of Interstate 77 work to begin Thursday

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The first phase of reconstruction on Interstate 77 between Bluefield and Princeton will begin Thursday.

While southbound traffic will not be impacted, truck traffic will be required to exit at Exit 1 onto U.S. Route 52, then circle around U.S. Route 460 in order to re-enter the interstate in Princeton.

The project includes milling out the slow lane shoulder rumble strips and paving over the work. Traffic will then be shifted to the slow lane while crews mill the existing roadway, rubblize the underlying concrete layer and resurface.

Work during the first phase is expected to continue until the last week of June. Both northbound lanes will be open for travel during the July 4 holiday.
