August trial set for Harrison County murder suspect

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Trial is scheduled for August for the Lumberport woman accused of shooting and killing her long-term boyfriend earlier this year.

Melissa Anne McAtee, 34, allegedly shot and killed David Cottrill at their residence on January 11. Four children and Cottrill’s mother were in the living room at the time of the shooting, according to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department.

McAtee is charged with one count of murder. She previously pleaded not guilty to the charge.

A grand jury indicted McAtee during the May term of court. She appeared in front of Judge Chris McCarthy on Thursday.
