Former Raleigh County parks director charged with embezzlement

BECKLEY, W.Va. — The former director of the Raleigh County Parks and Recreation Authority posted $25,000 bond Friday after being arrested on an embezzlement charge.

According to a criminal complaint, Rhonda Michelle Walker took $18,500 from the county for vacation pay and pay raises for herself and another employee.

Walker admitted to investigators that she wrote the checks to herself over a five-year period. The missing money was discovered through an audit, authorities said.

The other worker will not be charged, police said.
