CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The high school state track meet was completed on Saturday from Charleston as Hurricane (AAA boys), Ripley (AAA girls), Bridgeport (AA boys and girls), Magnolia (A boys) and Doddridge County (A girls) all won team state championships.
The wins for Hurricane boys and Ripley girls were the first AAA track state championships for those programs. Doddridge County was powered in its girls state championship behind Jonna Ferrell who won the 100, 200, 400 and long jump.
Another individual note saw the state’s reigning boys track athlete of the year, Freddy Canary of South Harrison, win individual titles in the 100, 200 and 400, while placing second in the long jump to Summers County’s Jacob McBride.
Overall, Canary finished his track career with 11 state championships — 10 of those coming in individual events.
