WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — A 6-year-old boy who fell into a Greenbrier County creek on Saturday has died.

Liam Craft was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center following the accident. Authorities said his older brother jumped into Howard’s Creek in White Sulphur Springs in an attempt to rescue him. Both were swept away by the strong current.

Craft’s mother announced his passing early Wednesday on the Facebook page “Prayers for Liam Craft”.

“I want to thank everyone for everything throughout these last few days,” she wrote. “Tonight Nathan and I held our baby boy in our arms as he went to heaven. He fought hard and for a long time. He’s now at peace.

Love to you all.”

A previous post from Craft’s mother on the page indicated that he had significant swelling on his brain and heart damage.

An account has been opened under “Liam Craft” at First Citizens Bank in White Sulphur Springs to help cover medical expenses.
