Holiday weekend storms slow travel

TEAYS VALLEY, W.Va. — Meteorologists with the National Weather Service said going into the Memorial Day weekend there would be some heavy thunderstorms and that’s exactly what happened Saturday evening.

The NWS issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Putnam and Kanawha counties. The thunderstorm produced flashes of lightning and heavy rain followed by lingering showers.

It caused flooding in poor drainage areas including sections of Teays Valley Road in Putnam County.

The NWS said heat and humidity will be around again for Sunday and Monday with the chance for additional storms.
