Gallery: No. 4 Martinsburg to first baseball state tourney since 2009

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Martinsburg this week will play in its first baseball state tournament since 2009 this week after rallying in regional play to beat Washington two games to one.

The Bulldogs lost the opening game of the series on Wednesday 9-1, but bounced back with a 7-6 win on Thursday and then won a wild, 13-10 game on Friday for the Class AAA Region 2 title (galleries from Thursday’s and Friday’s games posted above).

In Friday’s win, the Bulldogs scored five runs in the seventh inning for the win as Ashton Staubs finished the night 3 for 5 with three RBIs and two runs scored, including two home runs. Grant Harman also went 3 for 5 in the win, while Trey Sine added three RBIs.

The Bulldogs (24-11), who won the 2009 state championship in their last state tournament trip, are the No. 4 seed in state tournament play and will face No. 1 Hurricane Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
