One dead after Sandstone Falls drowning

SANDSTONE, W.Va. — A Raleigh County man was killed after attempting to save his stepdaughter from the water near Sandstone Falls.

Authorities said they received a call for a possible drowning at around 6:30 Saturday afternoon. Upon arrival, they learned Pete Kuhn of Fairdale got caught in a current and began to drown.

People nearby were able to pull Kuhn from the water and performed CPR until paramedics arrived. He was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center where he died Sunday morning.

West Virginia State Police and the Division of Natural Resources responded to the scene along with EMS.
