Arrest made in Greenbrier County bow and arrow homicide

CRICHTON, W.Va. — The man wanted in connection to a Greenbrier County homicide is behind bars.

Carl Rich

West Virginia State Police Sgt. Blevins told MetroNews affiliate WJLS troopers responded Tuesday evening at around 5 to reports of a shooting at a Crichton home.

Upon arrival, troopers learned Jay Booth had been shot with a bow and arrow. He was taken to Greenbrier Valley Medical Center where he later died.

The suspect has been identified as Carl Rich. He was not located by troopers until shortly after midnight near Charmco.

“Right now we don’t exactly know the motive,” said Sgt. Blevins. “The initial investigation reveals there was some type of argument over a cell phone.”

Rich faces a charge of first degree murder. He is being held at Southern Regional Jail without bond.

Sgt. Blevins added the investigation is ongoing and more arrests could be made in connection to the case.
