Montgomery man sentenced for 2016 fatal bar fight

FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. — A Montgomery man has been sentenced for his role in a fatal bar fight in 2016.

Cedric Coping faces 15 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter in the death of Luis Jackson of Kimberly. On October 29, 2016, police responded to a call at the Eagles Club in Montgomery. Upon arrival, they found Jackson unconscious.

Jackson died three days later from brain bleeding and a skull fracture as a result of the fight with Coping. The crime was investigated by West Virginia State Police.

Coping is already serving a sentence out of Kanawha County from a 2016 conviction on a charge of conspiracy to deliver methamphetamine as well as a previous felony record.

Coping was sentenced Wednesday by Fayette County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Jennifer Crane.
