WELLSBURG, W.Va. — A late-spring filled with flooding in several parts of West Virginia continued Friday night when high water forced emergency rescues in Brooke County.

Some areas picked up three inches of rain in less than two hours causing flash flooding in Follansbee, Wellsburg and surrounding communities.

First responders had to evacuate those living first floor of the Unity Apartments in Wellsburg because of high water.

Sections of Route 2 and Route 27 were closed for several minutes.

Most of the water had receded by Saturday morning, authorities said.
