Punt return touchdown, pick-6 secure win for North over South

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The North defeated the South 42-20 on Saturday afternoon in the annual North-South All-Star Football Classic from South Charleston High School.

A pair of non-offensive touchdowns secured the win for the North in the fourth quarter as East Hardy’s Brett Tharp took a punt return 30 yards for a touchdown and Bridgeport’s John Merica returned an interception 90 yards for another score.

Cameron’s Colby Brown completed 3 of 6 passes for 90 yards with two touchdowns in the win for the North, while Keyser’s Brady Ours finished with two catches for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Hurricane receiver Curon Cordon totaled eight catches for 116 yards and three touchdowns in the loss, while Winfield quarterback Andrew Huff was 15 of 30 passing for 209 yards and three touchdowns. Summers County’s Tucker Lilly also added seven catches for 125 yards for the South as well.

Tharp was named the game’s MVP for the North, while Cordon won MVP honors for the South.
