RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. — A golf state championship, along with strong finishes in basketball, baseball, cross country and track all propelled Ravenswood to the Class A boys MVB Bank Champions Cup for the 2017-2018 academic year.
The MVB Bank Champions Cup, presented by the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (WVSSAC), recognizes the top performing high schools in the state for their overall athletic and academic achievement.
The Red Devils scored 570 points on the year with a graduation rate coming in between 91 and 93.99 percent, to go along with top eight finishes in five sports.
Ravenswood’s points breakdown: Golf state title (100 points), basketball runner-up (97 points), cross country (97 points), graduation rate (95 points), baseball semifinal (94 points) and track (87 points).
Wheeling Central finished as the runner-up, totaling 490 points overall, followed by Charleston Catholic (471 points), St. Marys (384 points) and St. Joseph Central (321.5 points).

The recipients of the MVB Bank Champions Cups are selected by a point system that reward the top eight finishers in each state championship sanctioned by the WVSSAC.
Points are earned by finishing first (100), second (97), third (95), fourth (93), fifth (91), sixth (89), seventh (87) and eighth (85). Additional points are earned for the graduation rate of each school: 100%-97% (100 points), 96.99%-94% (97), 93.99%-91% (95), 90.99%-88% (93), 87.99%-85% (91), 84.99%-82% (89), 81.99%-79% (87) and 78.99%-76% (85).
**Charleston Catholic won the Class A girls MVB Bank Champions Cup. Winners for Class AA will be announced on Wednesday, with the Class AAA winners announced Thursday.
