PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — Parkersburg won the inaugural Class AAA boys MVB Bank Champions Cup, honoring academic and athletic success for the 2017-2018 academic year.
The Big Reds scored Cup points with top-eight finishes in golf, cross country, soccer, wrestling, swimming, tennis and track, to go along with a high graduation rate as well.
Parkersburg won the Cup with 747 points, just ahead of runner-up Hurricane (667 points), which won championships in baseball and track. Wheeling Park was third (649 points), Huntington fourth (646 points) and George Washington fifth (584 points).
The MVB Bank Champions Cup, presented by the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (WVSSAC), recognizes the top performing high schools in the state for their overall athletic and academic achievement.

The recipients of the MVB Bank Champions Cups are selected by a point system that reward the top eight finishers in each state championship sanctioned by the WVSSAC.
Points are earned by finishing first (100), second (97), third (95), fourth (93), fifth (91), sixth (89), seventh (87) and eighth (85). Additional points are earned for the graduation rate of each school: 100%-97% (100 points), 96.99%-94% (97), 93.99%-91% (95), 90.99%-88% (93), 87.99%-85% (91), 84.99%-82% (89), 81.99%-79% (87) and 78.99%-76% (85).
