Berkeley deputy killed in off-duty motorcycle crash

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Berkeley County sheriff’s deputy was killed Thursday night in an off-duty motorcycle crash, authorities said.

Deputy Jacquin Moore

Deputy Jacquin Moore, 30, the school resource officer at Spring Mills High School, was operating his motorcycle on Mid Atlantic Parkway near Martinsburg when a collision occurred with two vehicles, Berkeley County Sheriff Curtis Keller said.

On WEPM Radio’s Panhandle Live show Friday morning, Keller remembered Moore as an outstanding officer who was willing to serve wherever he was needed.

“Anything that me or the chief asked him to do, he was right there to do it,” said Keller. “He was a good above officer that we had.”

Berkeley County Schools Superintendent Manny Arvon remembered Moore as a dedicated officer who made a connection with the community.

“He was so fantastic at relationships,” said Arvon. “He’s one of those personalities that when you are approached by him, you automatically felt at ease and it almost made you smile.”

An investigation continues into what caused the collision.

Moore had been a deputy for four and a half years.
