Former prison official enters guilty plea for sexual acts with inmates

BECKLEY, W.Va. — A former official with the Federal Bureau of Prisons entered a guilty plea Tuesday for engaging in sexual acts with inmates at the Federal Prison Camp at Alderson.

Jarred Grimes, 39, of Inverness, Florida, admitted Tuesday to having sexual intercourse with four inmates and sexual activity with two other inmates around November 2016 to December 2017. Grimes was a captain during this period and was in charge of security functions.

Federal law states inmates were not capable of giving any form of consent to engage in sexual acts.

He pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual abuse of a ward and two counts of abusive sexual contact involving a ward.

He will be sentenced Oct. 17, when he will face up to 10 years in prison.
