DOT to open Interstate 77 near state line for Independence Day

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Both northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 77 near the West Virginia-Virginia line will be open for the Independence Day holiday beginning Friday.

The Department of Transportation announced Wednesday lanes between exit 1 and exit 9 will be open from June 29 through July 9. The truck detour along US Route 460 will also be lifted.

The speed limit will remain at 55 miles per hour during this period.

Work on the southbound lanes of the interstate will begin July 9. The truck detour will also return that day, and northbound traffic will continue with a single lane.
