ST. ALBANS, W.Va. — Contractors for CSX are expected to be in St. Albans soon to help cleanup a derailment from Wednesday morning.
About 18 cars of the train hauling coal jumped the tracks just before 7 a.m. in Kanawha County.
“About 18 coal cars derailed on the CSX line,” said C.W. Sigman, Deputy Director of Emergency Management in Kanawha County. “There’s no hazardous material involved, no injuries we’re aware of, and no houses affected.”
Sigman said the Spruce Street crossing was closed, but anticipated it would reopen as soon as crews were able to get to the scene.
Although coal was spilled, most of it was along the railroad right of way and caused no impact to the local community.
