BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — Bluefield rising sophomore receiver and defensive back Isaiah Johnson has developed into another in-state Power Five prospect for the Class of 2021.
After a visit last weekend to Penn State, Johnson received an offer from head coach James Franklin and the Nittany Lions. That offer added to a list that already included WVU, Kentucky, Maryland, Marshall, Virginia Tech and Rutgers.
He ran a 4.52 40-yard dash at The Opening’s Ohio regional back in the spring.
Maryland was the first D-I school to offer Johnson a scholarship in the middle of May.
The 6-foot, 176 pound sophomore made headlines back in December, winning MVP honors in the FBU freshman all-American Bowl from Naples, Florida. The game featured 70 freshmen from around the country, with Johnson the only representative from West Virginia.
Johnson finished the game with an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and also took home the defensive MVP honor.
A part of Bluefield’s 14-0 Class AA state championship team, Johnson offensively collected four catches for 40 yards as a freshman with the Beavers in 2017.
South Charleston rising sophomore defensive end Zeiqui Lawton received an offer last week from WVU, also a part of that 2021 recruiting class from the Mountain State.
