Two drown at Barbour County lake

Teter Creek Lake

BARBOUR COUNTY, W.Va. — Two men are dead after a late night boating mishap on Barbour County’s Teter Creek Lake.

Richard Stanley Jr., 39, and Ronald Crihfield, 47, both of Elkins drowned around 11 p.m. Sunday according to the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Police. The two men were in a four-seat paddle boat along with a third individual when the boat capsized.

The third passenger, Charles Petsko, Jr., 36, of Elkins managed to swim safely to shore.

Investigators say there were no life jackets on board the boat and there was no light on the craft. Police are awaiting the results of toxicology tests to determine if drugs or alcohol were factors in the accident.

The bodies of Stanley and Crihfield were recovered soon after daylight Monday morning.
