Huntington police raid a hive of drug activity

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — At least 20 people have been detained, three are charged, and more arrests expected in a drug raid in Huntington.

Huntington Police descended on the apartment complex in the 700 block of the city’s 8th Avenue around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. The raid culminated several months of surveillance, investigation, and numerous complaints from neighbors about drug activity and other suspicious behavior around the location.

When police showed up Wednesday morning, they say there were so many people passed out in the hallway of the apartment complex lying amid needles, they could not make it into the apartments which were the targets of the raid.

“This is not necessarily about the dope,” Huntington Police Captain Rocky Johnson told WSAZ Television. “It’s taking care of a community problem.”

Most of those detained live at the apartments. Among those being held is a 16 year old girl.

Police say progress on the bust has been slowed as they away representatives of the health department to clean up needles at the scene.
