Oak Hill man convicted of April 2017 fatal shooting

FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. — An Oak Hill man was found guilty of first-degree murder Wednesday for an April 2017 fatal shooting.

Derrick Crouse was convicted of shooting Janet Garrett inside her Berry Street home during an attempted robbery or burglary.

The trial began Monday with deliberations concluding Wednesday morning. The jury said it recommended mercy to the verdict, in which Crouse will be eligible for parole in 15 years.

Crouse will be sentenced Sept. 10.
