WASHINGTON — The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Thursday West Virginia will be able to accept federal disaster assistance in connection with severe storms across seven counties.
Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Jefferson, Mineral, Morgan, and Pendleton counties were affected by flooding, landslides and other weather events between May 28 and June 3. State and local governments, as well as certain private organizations, will be eligible to seek federal funding for emergency work and repair or replacing facilities.
U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., sent a letter to President Donald Trump thanking him for delcaing a major disaster for the state.
“We remain proud of our local citizens, first responders and our brave National Guard members, who have worked diligently to assist in recovery efforts, and we urge you to do everything in your power to make sure that our communities have the federal support they need to rebuild and recover,” he said.
