Low water leads to lock restrictions on Ohio River

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Due to low water levels, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced plans to limit lockage of recreational boats on the Ohio River until further notice.

The conditions have forced the locking on the river to be limited to even numbered hours. The locks impacted include Willow Island, Bellville, Racine, and Robert C. Byrd locks on the river between West Virginia and Ohio and further downstream at the Greenup and Meldahl Locks in the Kentucky stretch of the water.

The limited lock times apply only to recreational craft and will be in place until conditions improve.

Operations on at the London, Marmet, and Winfield Locks on the Kanawha River are unaffected and will continues as normal.
