Potter elected to full term as GOP chairwoman

WHEELING, W.Va. — West Virginia Republican Party Chairwoman Melody Potter has been elected to a full four-year term, the party announced Saturday.

The West Virginia Republican State Executive Committee, which is made up of 125 members, unanimously voted at its annual summer meeting in Wheeling to elect Potter to the position.

Potter has been serving as chairwoman since January, succeeding Conrad Lucas after he announced a bid for the 3rd Congressional District Seat. He lost the primary to Cabell County Delegate Carol Miller.

“It’s an honor to be re-elected Chairwoman of the West Virginia Republican Party. I’m thankful for the members of the Republican State Executive Committee and their confidence in my leadership,” Potter said. “My focus continues to be the election of Republicans to public office across the state of West Virginia. Our party is a big team with lots of hard workers, and I’m honored to be selected to lead the Republican team.”

The executive committee also unanimously passed a resolution supporting passage of Amendment One, which would add language to the state Constitution saying nothing in the governing document protects a right to abortion or allows funding of abortion.
