Alderson Mayor among four indicted for 2017 shooting that injured officer

ALDERSON, W.Va. — Charges were presented Thursday in a Summers County Grand Jury in connection to a October 2017 shooting that left an Alderson Police officer paralyzed.

Frederick Tolliver, 66 of Alderson.

West Virginia State Police responded to Eagle Branch Road and found Officer McCaden “Mac” Brackenrich, who was off duty at the time, with gunshot wounds to the neck and upper torso.

Further investigation revealed Frederick Tolliver, 66 of Alderson, allegedly fired at Brackenrich and four others who were on an ATV.

Summers County Special Prosecuting Attorney Larry Harrah II announced Thursday a three-count misdemeanor indictment against Alderson Mayor Travis Copenhaver, Shannon Earhart, Timothy Smith and Lloyd Lightner Jr for conspiracy, giving false information and obstructing an officer.

The grand jury decided after seeing all evidence that Tolliver will not be indicted for any charges in relation to the incident.
