SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Charges have been filed against a 23-year-old Massachusetts man after he struck a West Virginia man riding a bicycle in the area.
Michael Stennes, 57, of Elkins, was visiting the area, was riding his bicycle southbound on Main Street in Gill, when he was struck Saturday by a car that was making a left turn on to Route 2 West, according to a press release from the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office. The crash occurred shortly before 4 p.m.
Stennes died Sunday morning at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield as a result of his injuries.
The driver of that vehicle, a 23-year-old man of Montague, was issued a citation for negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to yield and unlicensed operation.
The incident remains under investigation by Gill Police, Massachusetts State Police and the MSP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (C.A.R.S.).
