I-79 traffic backup near Sutton after morning crash

SUTTON, W.Va. — Southbound traffic on Interstate-79 is halted following a Monday morning crash that sent one person to the hospital.

Dispatchers said two vehicles were involved in the wreck, which occurred at mile marker 62 around 7 a.m. One of the drivers was transported to Braxton Memorial Hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

The section of I-79 is currently a construction zone. It’s unknown if the construction was a factor in the crash.

Area police, fire and EMS responded to the scene. West Virginia State Police is handling the incident.
